Peggy, a Shih Tzu, is a ex-puppy farm breeding bitch who came to
us in July 2009.
She was in quite a state and had to have a few weeks to build-up before
she could be spayed. When our vet went to spay her it was all to much
for dear Peggy, whose heart stopped.
Thankfully, the vet was able to start it again, but he couldn't find the
reason why it had stopped.
After collapsing several times, blood was taken to check Peggy's glucose/insulin levels. The results point to her having insulinomas. This is extremely serious condition and an operation is not an option for
her.
The plan is to treat
Peggy with drugs and diet. ,
The estimated survival time after diagnosis could be as little as 2 months but we are hopeful that with careful management she will be with us a little longer.
We are all sad that Peggy will not have much more time with us, but so pleased that she is here at home and not still on the puppy farm

Sadly
Peggy was put to sleep as cancer took hold and brought her life to a
close.
Her fosterer, Margaret says:
Peggy was the most wonderful dog and I feel privileged to have shared her year of freedom. I will miss her terribly - she was a real character. Full of fun
and mischief! I always said she would have been an absolute terror if she had been well. Life will not be the same without her and it is now something Phoebe
and I will have to get used to.
