Lottie was a Cocker Spaniel that Pro Dogs Direct rescued from a puppy farm when her breeding days were over. Her life had become worthless to those farmers.
She was in such a dreadful state and had a large growth on her spleen. Sadly, her spleen ruptured when the vet went to spay her.

We think it would be nice to have her memory recorded here as no one else cared about her.

This poem dedicated to little Lottie.

IN MEMORY OF LOTTIE

You will have heard of puppy farms – for dogs a living hell
Lottie’s one such little dog – her tale we’d like to tell
October last she came to us – a spaniel – black and white
Our help she needed desperately – her health was far from right
Painful ears, a hernia – we prayed she could be ‘cured’
It broke our hearts for us to see - what Lottie had endured
Itchy mange, infected skin, and sore and weeping eyes
To see her shake, distressed us – it upset us when she cried.
Petrified of human hands – she snapped at being touched
Physical and mental pain – this dog had suffered much
We knew we had to fight for her, we must do everything…
we could, to shower her with love - and ease her suffering
She ate her food – this gave us hope – but it was not to be
For years she’d been neglected – she was damaged permanently
The vet prepared to operate – so many prayers we said
The horror that confronted him – caused him to shake his head
No miracle for Lottie came – and her life ebbed away
Her chance of life, her chance of love – came to an end that day

But now…

You’ve crossed the Bridge – our dear sweet girl – where the Rainbow ends
Shake off the past – run free once more – and meet up with old friends
Never more will human hands be there to cause you pain
Nor will neglect - nor ignorance – impair your life again
To say ‘Goodbye’ was oh so hard – but tho’ we’ve had to part
Be sure your mem’ry will remain – forever in our hearts
And for those many other dogs who suffer constantly
We’ll do everything thing we can to stop this cruelty
