Peggy

Peggy is a ex-puppy farm breeding Shih Tzu who came to us in July.

She was in quite a state and had to have a few weeks to build-up before she could be spayed. When our vet went to spay her it was all to much dear Peggy whose heart stopped, 

Thankfully, the vet was able to start it again, but he couldn't find the reason why it had stopped. 

Since then Peggy has collapsed several times. Because of the extreme risk the vet is unable to operate until we know what is going on with Peggy. 

We now have Peggy's referral report from a specialist and she has sick sinus syndrome (SSS), but she may also have other problems too, as her blood pressure also fluctuated. 

She has had blood tests which showed a low glucose reading on two tests and the third was fine. We still do not know why this happened. 

Peggy was started on tablets for her heart at the minimum dose but there was no effect. On the day she stopped the tablets she started to have diarrhoea which took three weeks to get under control and she lost just over a kilo in weight. A faecal lab test proved negative. 

She is now on just Chappie but again we have no idea why Peggy suddenly developed diarrhoea. We are waiting for her to regain her weight before restarting the tablets at double the dose.

Now the weather is cooler Peggy seems much happier and is starting to play with toys. She particularly likes soft toys and is not adverse to stealing them from stalls at the boot fairs!
