4 Year Old Female
Cocker Spaniel

Wendy is a very sweet gentle girl with the saddest eyes. She is learning all about living in a home, and toilet training is still a work in progress. She is so very mistrustful of people, and will try and run away or freeze and drop to the ground to make herself as small as possible.

Once she bonds with you, she loves cuddles and actively comes to you. One of her favourite pastimes is falling asleep on your lap or lying next to you, always touching so she knows you are there. She has slight separation anxiety, when she knows I am near but cannot get to me. At night she has the run of the kitchen and living room with her canine fosters and sleeps well, only toileting in the kitchen.

Lead training is still a work in progress, as is building her confidence both in and out of the house, car noises, people walking past are scary and she will default to freezing and making herself as small as possible as she clings to the ground or tries to run in the other direction. Likewise indoors, sudden movements, loud noises and even walking towards her still make her anxious and she will seek refuge in her bed. Once in the park or open fields she comes into her own, her tail is up and wagging, she forgets her nerves and runs after the other dogs, investigating, she even braved the river for a paddle. So wonderful to see the carefree dog she can become.

Wendy is a typical Cocker, she collects toys and hoards them in her bed, with some guarding if other dogs come to close. She does not limit herself to toys, anything else she takes a fancy too, she is a chewer, not the toys, they are prized possessions to carry around, however slippers, leads, harnesses, long line lead, blankets, throws washing and collapsible water bowls are all fair game and will be shredded.

This girl will make a wonderful companion but she does need patient owners with the time to help her adjust and settle into life as a much loved pet. As she is nervous Wendy will need new owners who are around for most of the day and a home with at least one other resident dog. Any children should be older and understand that she will be nervous initially.

Wendy has been neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped, she has had a full dental and is up to date with flea and worming treatment, she is currently being fostered in London SE7.
